Young
People
We have poets who can
go into your educational establishment armed with knowledge skill and
enthusiasm, who will educate, entertain and inspire and get young
people excited about writing and reading with expression.
Writers
Meetings
We hold regular
informal meetings between experienced poets, a chance to skill share or
practise that new piece. Groups that regularly meet are The
Fluid Group and The Oxford Black Writers Network.
Prisons
Hammer And Tongue
co-founder Steve Larkin is currently working in an Oxfordshire prison,
taking slam to the slammer and engaging prisoners in positive writing
and performing experiences. We can facilitate similar activities
anywhere in the country.

Recent successes of
Hammer and Tongue include “The 1000 bpm Slam” last term in
which students from schools across Oxfordshire competed against each
other for the youth slam champion title. Comments about Hammer and
Tongue’s work with young people have included:
"I think it's
tremendously important just teaching them to be creative and to see
poetry not just as something that's been published in books but also
something they can create themselves and even perform."
-Cherwell School
English teacher James Eve
"The workshops have
introduced them to competitive poetry, helping them with speaking and
listening, reading, writing and performing."
-Mandy Beard, Henley
Festival Trust
